First of all, nobody should ever be without the Battery Watcher. It graphs the Omnigo's battery voltage level over time, and keeps track of the minutes the the Omnigo has been running between battery changes. Click the "change" button when replacing the batteries to reset the time counter. Just divide the number of minutes by 60 to get hours. i.e. 642 minutes, 642/60=10.7 hours. (typical alkaline battery life) [6k] |
Character map. Just like the Windows version! When you click a character with the stylus, it will "pop up" like a magnifying glass so you can see it better. Click the copy button, then go back to your application, and paste the character into the document. [25k] |
Expert Mode. I real must have, but... be careful! You can make really radical changes to how your Omnigo behaves! Turn on the Express Menu® to have it look like your desktop version of NewDeal®. You can also control how the Omnigo opens/saves files, and whether you can have more than one file open at the same time. You have to reboot after each Expert Mode change. (it rewrites the GEOS.INI file) You can also get some apps to "float" and resize on the screen like the big computer's version of GEOS. [28k] |
Text Editor. A really nice ASCII file editor complete with a tool bar with icons of scissors for "cut" a glue bottle for "paste" etc. The really good part is being able to create/read ASCII files from any other computer. You'll need a serial cable to move the files, of course. [39k] |
Alarm Clock. I like this one for travel. It puts a HUGE clock display on the screen that you can read from across a room. The alarm can be set to display a message too. [16k] |
The File Manager. An absolute must have. To understand GEOS, you'll have to remember a couple of things. Files in GEOS common folders are linked with an underline, and are also shown in color. But... you can't see this on the Omnigo's screen, so when you have a file in the [world] folder (most programs reside here) the [world] folder on the Omnigo itself AND in a memory card is seen from BOTH locations. (The SRAM card will have these folders created when GEOS formats the card) In desktop GEOS you'd know the underlined file is in the remote folder, so be aware of this. If you delete a file from the remote one, it's gone in both. If you want to make a copy or move a file, move it somewhere else first besides the usual [world] and/or [documents] folders. Drives: A:=ROM B:=Storage in RAM C:=Memory card. [50k] |
Draw. This one is like the desktop GEOS/NewDeal version complete with bitmap and vector editing. You will need an SRAM memory card for this one, as it's about a 3/4 of a meg when installed. [299k] |
OGT Mode. You will need an external method of editing the Omnigo's autoexec.bat file for this one. The best part is when you reboot the Omnigo it will look like a desktop unit with scrolling autoexec.bat and config.sys commands running up the screen so you can watch it load up. It also gives you a DOS prompt if you "REM" out the loading line in the autoexec file. Refer to the read.me in the ZIP for info on how to use this application. This app is best used by experts in DOS and system tweaking. i.e. nerds :-) [3k] |
Omnicom.
This is a DOS mode computer-to-Omnigo serial port communication program.
It's used from your desktop computer. It uses a little different commands,
so type ? at the prompt for a list of its special commands. It's just like
DOS, and is in fact a form of it. You type standard DOS commands and
Omnigo commands to create directories, move/copy/delete files etc. (on
the local machine, and in the Omnigo) The nice thing is, (despite the lack
of a GUI) is the level of CONTROL over the Omnigo's file system. The OCTTY
it gripes about when started is a parameter you set in your desktop's config.sys
file to get rid of having to tell it what port and speed every time it's
run. To have Omnicom start without asking, add this line to your computer's
autoexec.bat:
SET OCTTY=1,19200 (for serial port 1 and 19,200 baud) 1 for serial port 1, 2 for serial port 2, etc. and 2400, 9600, 19200 are the speeds) You will need this app to extract and edit the Omnigo's autoexec.bat in the above OGT Mode. [20k] |
OGComm. A terminal program to access BBS systems and use as a terminal to program equipment etc. This is another "nerd" program, but I've actually used it to program Zetron equipment by using the Omnigo as a dumb terminal to direct serial connect. I also perused the town's library BBS. (a pointless gesture, considering the Omnigo's lack of battery life, I'm sure, ...but it works!!) [16k] |
Installer.
This installs on your desktop computer, and is a Windows 3.x app. This
is used for installing GPK (package) files such as Bookreader files and
programs.
(I think this is an older version) [1,374k] |
